Under the Collaborative Law process, each person appoints their own Collaboratively trained lawyer and both parties, together with their lawyers, meet to work things out face to face. You and your lawyer sign an agreement that commits you to trying to resolve the issues without going to Court and prevents the same lawyer representing you if the collaborative process breaks down. This means that everyone is committed to finding the best solution by agreement rather than through Court proceedings. Agreements usually work better than Court orders so this is an option to seriously consider. It is also much cheaper than going to Court!
